Physical Description | While she is considered rather petite for a Vulcan, T'Raen is no less physically capable than any other of her species. While still stronger than many humans, she is a creature of lithe grace, walking with soft, fluid steps despite her usually rigid resting posture. There had been many during her Starfleet years who had commented she should probably take up dancing, but it never seemed to interest the Vulcan. Besides the occasional eyebrow raise and forced, exaggerated expressions when trying to be more emotive for her peers, T'Raen's characteristic stoicism is a near constant. Even though she does a great deal of work in the numerous Science Labs, T'Raen's seemingly always in a pristine, Starfleet uniform of some type. Besides the various additional options that all carry the familiar chevron, such as lab coats and cold weather jackets, the most 'casual' the Vulcan gets in donning the muted, plain clothing brought with her from her homeworld. She's only been seen in a dress once during her time in Starfleet, for which there are rumored photos to exist, but T'Raen shows a clear lack of concern with 'fashion' or wearing anything that could be considered a reflection of 'personal style'. The only two aspects that set her apart from the usual appearance of Vulcan women are the style in which she keeps her hair; cascading with length over her shoulders, lacking the usual bangs and styled with some slight highlights, and the numerous additional piercings in her pointed ears beyond the usual single. While T'Raen does own but almost never wears any of the more elaborate, Vulcan jewelry she owns, her ears are adorned with several, simple, small hoops and studs that appear to be made of some high-quality metal, potentially an alloy of some type that is more indicative of a ships hull than of some precious metal. |

Personality & Traits
General Overview | T'Raen is very clearly Vulcan, having been raised and spent most of her life around fellow Vulcans, but has in recent years begun to show the influence that her non-Vulcan peers have had on her. Having grown out her hair and even expanding beyond the traditional piercing customs, the woman has yet to shake her stiffness or flat tone. She does try, on occasion, to seem more 'human' but such attempts are quite noticeable to her peers, and often result in a wide variety of reactions to include confusion or laughter. Unsure whether causing laughter is necessarily negative, T'Raen has not been dissuaded from continuing her attempts to be better accepted and assimilate with the monopoly of cultures she has chosen.
Strengths & Weaknesses | + Master of the Physical Sciences: While the Vulcan Science Academy doesn't award such distinctions as that of Human Institutes, it is widely believed that T'Raen would hold multiple Doctorates in a wide array of various disciplines of Physics, Astronomy, Chemistry, and Geoscience. Primarily her expertise is in the abnormal phenomena of space and its effects on matter that encounters them. This required her to be multifaceted in her approach to Science and has caused her to dwarf her peers in general scientific knowledge and procedures. + Vulcan Logical Calm: While considered one of her strengths, T'Raen's life experience has led her to evolve the traditional Logic-Focused demeanor of Vulcans to a wider array of situations and have more flexibility than most other Vulcans. While she sees little point to it, the Science Officer has been known to lie when it seems logical to do so, whether as a measure of tactics or so as to retain the calm of her more emotional peers. This has served her well in high-pressure situations, both to her subordinates and commanders. - Not That Kind of Doctor: Even though there have been many who have referred to the Vulcan as 'Doctor' despite her not actually having the requisite certifications, it is T'Raen's general demeanor that causes those unfamiliar with her to assume she is such. To that end, she has little experience in applied biology, especially in terms of medical applications, and is not adept at doing much more than what is required of any Starfleet officer when faced with a life-saving situation. While she may be able to acutely explain the effect of certain types of radiation on one's cells, she lacks the training to prescribe a remedy for crewmen who have acquired an alien pathogen as a result of unwise relations. - Surprisingly Poor Pilot: Even with all of her understanding of the universe, its forces, and the effects of physics in nearly all applications, T'Raen has never been able to translate this knowledge to the ability to functionally pilot any spacefaring craft, especially manually. While she has no issues plotting warp courses or flight plans from an intellectual level, if there isn't an Artificial Intelligence to accept her settings and do the actual piloting for her, the inevitable result is an unintended collision. While it is buried in her personnel file, T'Raen has been prohibited from piloting any Starfleet craft unless in an extreme emergency. |

Ambitions | As with most Vulcans, T'Raen's primary ambition is to continue to Serve in as fruitful a way as she can. With this being her first true Senior Command posting, she has a lot to prove, not only to her peers but to herself as well. While there are few opportunities for Science Officers to gain a Captainacy, there are positions of prestige that can be reached within Starfleet that could draw the Vulcan away from the intellectual curiosity of space exploration. While it is doubtful that her name will become one worthy of mention in Vulcan history, she does know that making a discovery of considerable meaning could transcend the usual limitations and add her name to Galactic History, much like Ambassador Spock.

Personal History | Born in 2330 on Vulcan, T'Raen was the first child and daughter of Suvok and T'Pava. Much like most Vulcans, she was successful in her kahs-wan and was bonded to Siryk in their koon-ut-la shortly after, though they had little contact with each other until they approached their twenties. Having been a very successful student during her years at the Vulcan Learning Center, upon completion, she took nearly two years off to independently study to find the most logical path before entering secondary education. It was also during this time that T'Raen and Siryk went through the first symptoms of pon farr together. While it did not lead to T'Raen proposing marriage at that time, it did mark the beginning of the romantic courtship between the two. At the age of twenty-two, T'Raen was accepted into the Vulcan Science Academy where she took on a multi-disciplinal study of Physical Sciences, with equal focus devoted to all four branches of study: Physics, Astronomy, Chemistry, and Geoscience. Seemingly grasping onto the various branches through the ways they interacted, T'Raen spent nine years at the Academy to accomplish the necessary accolades to be considered a specialist in all four branches. Following her graduation, she was immediately recruited into the Vulcan Ministry of Science as a researcher, spending ten years studying the numerous effects of the various effects of astrological phenomena on the creation and destruction of matter within the universe. During her time as a Researcher, after a lengthy courtship lasting over a decade, T'Raen finally proposed marriage to Siryk, which was more a relief to both of their families than something her betrothed mate had been concerned with. Having always had a logical reason for delaying before, and never giving Siryk any reason to be concerned with his status with T'Raen, the two took part in the koon-ut-kal-if-fee and completed the required rituals. Unlike others, despite the bond that had only strengthened between the two, Siryk had come to understand that his wife would not 'serve' him in the traditional thinking but do so by furthering his family name through her scientific study. By the time of the Dominion's emergence and their intrusions into Federation space, the opinions on Vulcan had changed to take the logical measures to stop the enemy force's expansion that would lead to the destruction of Vulcan. Having already done a great deal to further Vulcan knowledge, T'Raen surprised her family with her choice to join the Vulcan High Command, requiring her to spend a year at the Vulcan Institute for Defensive Arts in preparation. To her, it was only logical to believe that doing nothing to stop the Dominion would result in the inability of Vulcan to continue its pursuit of knowledge if Vulcan no longer existed. T'Raen spent ten years serving aboard the VCF Soval, primarily a hospital ship, during the Dominion War and the years of rebuilding that followed primarily in the Alpha Quadrant. Working as a Science Officer, she was involved in a number of aid missions and research that would lead to the regrowth that would eventually come to Cardassia Prime. The experience, especially the years spent going back and forth from the front lines, was not something T'Raen has been able to forget, and it came to color her opinion of the goal that Starfleet and the Federation set out to achieve several centuries before. Following her dedicated service, she was promoted, in a sense, to serve as one of the lab directors aboard the VCF Sepok, a defense and scientific research vessel. There, T'Raen's primary responsibility was to aid in the development of shielding technology that would not only better protect Federation starships from the numerous hazards that could be found in space but also proved to be useful in combat shielding that could better protect against the growing variety of weapons the Federation encountered. Even if her work on the project was minor in comparison to her colleagues, T'Raen did believe that the development of defensive technologies was far better both logically and ethically, especially compared to Humanity's focus on more offensive technologies. When her work on the shielding project was completed, there was a conversation had of T'Raen returning to her duties with the Vulcan Ministry of Science given her broad specialty and the more useful applications she could have in their research and development. Even if it was illogical, T'Raen disagreed with the Council's conclusion, wishing to continue her service under the Vulcan High Command and the missions they took on. While it was seen as somewhat of a punishment by the Vulcan Council on the Science Officer, she was given her wish by being involuntarily granted a transfer to Starfleet to continue her service. Culture shock aside, T'Raen found the assignment rather favorable to her pursuits, especially as she easily proved to be a superior scientist to many of her peers. Serving upon the USS Masaka for her first four years as a Provisional Officer, T'Raen increased in Starfleet Rank at an acceptable rate for the organization. Compared to Vulcan service, she actually thought the promotions were quite fast, but could only conclude it was because of the limited lifespans of the majority of her fellow Starfleet officers. While she did not rise to a position of command aboard her first posting, she was often called on to handle Gamma-Shift Bridge Duty and utilized by her 'Chiefs' for a wide array of situations. While her expertise and scientific skills were nary rivaled, she did suffer the normal Vulcan issues of relating to her peers. After four years, T'Raen was given the option to either continue in Starfleet or return to serve the Vulcan Ministry of Science. Much to the Vulcan Council's surprise, the woman chose to stay on with Starfleet, even accepting a formal commission that required her to attend a ceremony at Starfleet Headquarters. Standing alongside others, most of whom were freshly graduating from the Academy, there was a collective sound of confusion when T'Raen's name was called and was commissioned at the rank of Lieutenant. Though an uncommon occurrence, especially since she'd never attended any Starfleet institute of education, she was immediately placed into the Assistant Chief Science Officer position aboard the newly-refitted Nebula-Class vessel, the USS Hawking. The five-year tour was primarily one of exploration; an attempt for Starfleet to return to its roots after many years of war and tragedy. The USS Hawking would often find itself, though, returning from wherever it had been sent to provide specialized scientific services in coordination with whatever Starfleet ship or force had encountered something previously unencountered within normal security patrols. While T'Raen never showed any sense that the back-and-forth bothered her, the Vulcan had regained some of her previous thirst for scientific enlightenment while also maintaining her desire to see such used for a safer future for the Federation. Five years was a long time to be an Assistant Chief Science Officer, but her constant dedication and work led her to yet another promotion - the most prestigious of her career regardless of organization - and the assignment to the newly commissioned USS Horizon; a new class of explorer that would, hopefully, usher in a new era of Exploration in the fading years of the 24th Century. Having learned the requirements of command and the skills necessary to be an adequate manager, it was T'Raen's time to be truly tested as a Leader. The Vulcan was confident in her knowledge and abilities, yet was unsure of what to expect from those she would be serving with and under the command of. |
